Abstract

Beaver translocation has become a valuable tool for ecological restoration, offering benefits such as restoration in riparian habitats. Translocation has slowly become more common in restoration practices. However, historically, little was known about the most ideal location for the release of beaver. The location is potentially the most important part of beaver translocation since it determines the success of the beaver and its impact on the surrounding ecosystem. Our research focused on past and present site determination methods in beaver translocation projects throughout the West. We talked with beaver experts from Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) and U.S Geological Survey (USGS) to understand their methods of beaver translocation in the Western U.S. Now, we will focus on using satellite/aerial imagery to explore the effects of beaver translocation on riparian ecosystems over time. We will create a story map to present our research and show the aftermath of beaver translocation.
