William Jamieson, Boise State University

Abstract

I have chosen for consideration in my thesis a common, ordinary object from my surroundings that connects the past with the present and nature with human accomplishment. The history and importance of the brick has been integrated into our lives and often it is overlooked or taken for granted. The brick, to me, represents human accomplishment. The history and importance of the brick has been integrated into our lives and often it is overlooked or taken for granted. The brick, to me, represents human accomplishment and innovation as well as perseverance. It is one of mankind's few devices that are essentially unchanged since its humble beginnings. The brick marks a continuation of the human race declaring territory and defining space, serving as a divider between human culture and the natural world. The brick signifies mankind taking control of raw materials for its own use.
