Abstract

In 2006, there were two seemingly unrelated debates in the news: the construction of the great wall of Mexico, and an upsurge in English-Only legislation. As I watched news reporters and magazine articles flip between the two as if they existed apart from each other, I was surprised that no one was pitting the two together to find out what was really going on.
