Abstract
In recent years, the Chinese government has introduced a series of policy documents to encourage students to participate in sports activities. As an emerging form of sports, outdoor activities are particularly effective in promoting students' healthy development and overall well-being. Against the backdrop of the Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan and Standards (2022 Edition), which includes outdoor activities such as wilderness survival and orienteering in the specialized sports skills curriculum, outdoor sports in primary and secondary schools are poised for accelerated development. In this context, investigating the participation of primary school students in outdoor activities, analyzing the specific factors influencing their involvement, and providing valuable support to advance the development of outdoor sports for primary school students have become critical issues that demand immediate attention and resolution. The study employed both literature review and questionnaire survey methods. The survey targeted 465 primary school students from 9 schools across 6 districts in Shijiazhuang, as well as primary school teachers. 1) Participation Rate in Outdoor Activities: 71% of primary school students have never participated in outdoor activities. Among those who have participated, the proportions of boys and girls are 35.2% and 26.6%, respectively. Parental participation in outdoor activities significantly influences their children's participation. 2) Forms and Types of Outdoor Activities:62.1% of primary school students primarily participate in outdoor activities through family-organized events, 36.2% of students participate through outdoor clubs and travel agencies. The main activities include hiking (65%), mountain climbing (43%), and camping (39%). 3)Time and Frequency of Participation: Most students choose to participate in outdoor activities during holidays. Overall participation frequency is low, with 23% of students participating only once a month. 4) Satisfaction Levels: Most participants expressed satisfaction with feedback, hardware facilities, and soft services. Lower ratings were given to outdoor activity programs, logistical support, and the attitude of coaches. 5) Influencing Factors: The main factors influencing primary school students' participation in outdoor activities, in order of importance, are student-related, external environment, family, school, and coach-related factors. Conclusion: To promote primary school students' participation in outdoor activities, it is recommended to focus on the following aspects: strengthening interest cultivation, optimizing the external environment, fostering a positive family atmosphere for outdoor activities, improving the service quality of outdoor activity institutions, and enhancing school-enterprise collaboration to expand participation pathways. These measures will collectively contribute to increasing students' engagement in outdoor sports.
