Abstract

As cryptocurrencies continue to grow, the possibility of cryptocurrencies taking on many of the roles of traditional currencies becomes more and more plausible. But to what extent they are substitute goods in the money market is a quantitative question to which the answer changes rapidly, as the cryptocurrency market is very volatile. This research project will investigate the effect of cryptocurrencies on the demand for money, specifically measuring the elasticity of substitution between crypto and traditional currency, and how this has changed over time.
