Abstract

This research aims to assess how subgrade conditions affect pavement analysis and performance prediction using AASHTOWare pavement ME design. An extensive laboratory testing matrix is being used to estimate the subgrade resilient modulus properties from simple, easy to measure index properties. Sensitivity analysis are being carried to emphasize the importance of considering subgrade moisture conditions during pavement design. Tasks involve the development of new permanent deformation models to quantify the contribution of subgrade soils towards total rut-accumulation in flexible pavements. Thorough understanding and quantification of relevant subgrade properties will lead to the design and construction of longer lasting, cost-effective pavements.
