Summary & Purpose
Dry Creek Experimental Watershed (DCEW) provides long-term environmental time series data to support hydrometerologic, ecosystem and climate change research. Numerous theses and peer-reviewed publications have utilized this data. This dataset provides continuous hourly precipitation data for five measurement sites in DCEW.

The five sites are compiled into one dataset to support multi-site analyses. Sites are named as follows (lowest elevation to highest): Lower Weather (1151 m), Treeline (1610 m), Shingle Creek (1720 m), Lower Deer Point (1843), Bogus Ridge Weather (2114 m). Coordinates for each site are provided in the section below, as well as a DCEW map image. Lower Weather and Treeline data are provided from early 1999, while the higher elevation sites provide data from summer 2007 or later. Data gaps, including prior to data initiation, are represented in this published dataset using -6999 as hourly values. This precipitation data should be considered a processed data product, acquired from various precipitation shielded weighing bucket sensors and subsequently processed to removed noise. In some cases, data is gap-filled via interpolation from adjacent measurement site precipitation data as a function of monthly elevation dependent precipitation ratios. Note that research indicates undercatch in this type of precipitation gauge to be up to 20%, especially during snowfall. This dataset will be added to annually.
