Summary & Purpose
This dataset contains geolocated customized ICESat-2 ATL06 data calculated from ATL08 classified ground photon returns calculated using the SlideRule EarthData package; snow free reference elevations calculated from snowfree airborne lidar digital terrain models (DTMs); mean DTM slopes; snow cover status; and calculated ICESat-2 snow depths for four mountainous Idaho sites: Reynolds Creek, Banner Summit, Mores Creek, and Dry Creek. Datasets have reference DTM elevations calculated without co-registration between the ICESat-2 data and the reference DTMs, an aggregated co-registration, and an individual co-registration. Snow cover was classified using the "glacier-snow-cover-mapping" package applied to near co-incident Landsat 8/9 and Sentinel-2 imagery. All processing code is openly available at https://github.com/CryoGARS-Glaciology/ICESat2-AlpineSnow and https://zenodo.org/records/17101987.

Data Source Credits
The classified image time series used to classify ICESat-2 segments’ snow cover status were constructed using the "glacier-snow-cover-mapping" package (Aberle et al., 2024), which classifies remote sensing imagery (Landsat 8/9 and Sentinel-2) and computes snow cover statistics based on glacier boundaries and date ranges. All code used to conduct the analyses and construct the dataset are publicly available on Zenodo (Aberle et al., 2025a) and GitHub: https://github.com/RaineyAbe/glacier-snow-cover-analysis. ICESat-2 data was accessed from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) through the SlideRule Earth data processing package (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.16989464) The following airborne lidar DTMs were used to calculate the snow-free reference elevations: Adebisi, N., Marhsall, H.-P., ONeel, S., Vuyovich, C., Hiemstra, C., and Elder, K.: SnowEx20-21 QSI Lidar DEM 0.5m UTM Grid, Version 1, https://doi.org/10.5067/YO583L7ZOLOO, 2022.
