Artist Statement
Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastics enter our ocean on top of the estimated 150 million metric tons that are already out there. These plastics affect over 700 species of marine life and we are nearing a point where we will have one pound of plastic floating in the ocean for every one pound of fish. It is estimated that one plastic bottle can take up to 450 years to decompose in the ocean. As technology advances far beyond what we ever could have imagined, we tend to forget that we are not invincible, and that we do in fact rely upon this Earth for survival. As an artist I hope to bring that dependence back into focus, and inspire viewers to take a look at their individual habits.
