Artist Statement
These works explore the overlap of the virtual and natural world. While we are physically bound to the natural world, we are still deeply immersed in virtual reality of many types. From social media and networking sites to video games and simulation-based devices, our culture has become one that is extremely integrated with the virtual world.
Both works incorporate the use of QR Codes (or Quick Response Codes) which are a matrix barcode, read by machine scanners for tasks such as product tracking and marketing. The use of the QR Code in the work is a method of encouraging interaction with the viewer while presenting an overlap of the virtual and physical. Once the code is scanned a virtual interaction takes place leading away from physical existence.
