Speaking Engagement: The Correlation Between Communication Apprehension and Student Involvement in the University Environment

Danielle Ashley Verhulp, Boise State University

Abstract

Colleges and universities have an interest in student involvement and campus engagement opportunities; hence, many institutions have included such activities into their mission statements. Studies have shown that students who are more involved in extra-curricular activities at their institutions experience a wealth of benefits including personal development, increased learning and higher rates of retention (Arboleda, Wang, Shelley & Whalen, 2003).
