Since its creation in a territory, Idaho has been plagued by sectionalism.

As the icy streams of the Sawtooth Mountains feed the Salmon and Snake rivers, so the above statement serves as the wellspring for any discussion of Idaho politics. Sectionalism is the fundamental truth of Idaho politics.
