Abstract
Idaho Scholar Talks: “Mind Your F’s and Q’s!: Exploring Early Editions of Romeo and Juliet” by Dr. Jessica Winston (Idaho State University) at the Yanke Research Family Park. The First Folio is the book that made Shakespeare, but what is a “folio,” precisely? This talk will introduce important vocabulary for understanding Renaissance-era printing practices – quarto (“Q”), folio (“F”), printer, compositor. Dr. Winston will then explore how early quartos and folios can illuminate our interpretation and teaching of Romeo and Juliet. Members of the audience are invited to bring their own editions of the play to compare how modern versions match the earliest printings.
