Abstract

Many times, as educators, we deliver instruction without thinking about what students think about school or what they want from it. The purpose of this study is to determine the trends in student opinions about school. By addressing students’ perceptions about school, a lot of different kinds of information can come to light. We can find out if the majority of students like or dislike school, and we can delve even further to find out about how they feel about distinct parts of their school day. We purposely phrased the question broadly, so that a variety of questions on the topic may be asked. This information will be a valuable resource for teachers to guide or change instruction and to motivate students to learn. By knowing what students think about school, teachers can address these opinions through the design of their curriculum and instruction.
