Forty years ago Basque Studies was transformed by two separate but related events: the publication of the seminal book Amerikankuak and the beginning of the studies abroad program in Oñati of the Basque Country. These set the stage for last summer’s “Joan Etorri” [Going Back & Forth] Basque Studies Symposium that are featured here in this issue.
