Artist Statement
These lockets reflect on significant places in my life. I have always had a very strong connection with place, from the grand expanses of national parks to the warm intimacy of my bed. I yearn for the comfort when I am stuck elsewhere. I daydream about dropping everything and wandering to them. These places make me feel safe, feel like myself. They are places where love is enough. Expectations fall away when I am in these places. I am able to be my absolute full self, and, for that, I am grateful.
I often collect objects and memories from these places, as reminders of the significance and beauty they hold. In a similar way that people put photographs in lockets for memory, I put these objects into my handmade lockets specifically crafted to represent the places they came from.
While people experience my lockets, my hope is that they feel a yearning for place, perhaps different than my own, but similar in the way it calls to them.
