My Experiences as a First-Year Chinese Student

Kandra Polatis, Department of History, Boise State University

Abstract

I used to think that Chinese would be an easy language to learn. After my first few weeks of Chinese class, I learned that it was difficult. It was especially difficult because I already spoke Japanese. I would often become confused and make some amusing mistakes in front of my Chinese class. I will talk about these mistakes and how I finally learned to speak Chinese without using Japanese.
