I first started shooting these Latino owned stores because I felt they were very important in my life. They offered a comfort that I could not find anywhere else. These stores, and the people I photograph, remind me of my childhood. These places also helped me to reconnect with my heritage, something that I felt I was losing since moving to Idaho from Los Angeles. As the work progressed, I realized that they were not only important to me but to the entire community. These stores not only make me and others feel at home, but they also help contribute to the local economy and are therefore an important part of the community. I feel this is an aspect that is overlooked by many, especially when issues of immigration are brought up.
