Eight passengers (including animals) share a compact bus ride; pineapple imagery is painted along the left edge.
Honoring the advanced tradition of figurative painting and using personal iconography, I set about doing this painting from sketches I made of passengers while taking a bus ride from my studio to downtown Boise, Idaho.
Five of the eight passengers actually were taking the bus, and I added the animals as it reminded me of a wild bus ride I took on the island of Crete, Greece, where all sorts of animals shared the ride with Greek passengers. Using figures and personal imagery has significant meaning in my work, as does striving for harmony with composition and color in the completed painting.
